“Master carest thou not that we perish?” Mk. 4:35-41. The storm was great, the waves were fierce, much water was pouring into the ship which threatened to sink the ship and there was confusion and panic everywhere as the occupants of the ship realized that they were at the grip of death. But someone was in the hinder part of the ship asleep on a pillow.
This particular ship must have been big, because the Bible said there were other smaller ships around. I begin to imagine for such a desperate cry to have come out from the disciples of Jesus Christ, there was real danger. And the master himself “was in the inner part of the ship asleep on a pillow” Jesus said in Jn.16:33 “…in me you might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulations: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”.
There are many storms of life today, many in-sensitivities in man towards the plights of fellow man. This could be seen in the home front as marriages is shaking violently with threats of 家庭輔導 breaking up. It could be sickness and the doctor has pronounced the situation as hopeless. It could be an intimidating boss in the office, threatening to sack you unless you meet a certain impossible condition and the list goes on and on; but the master Jesus, in whom you believe and follow says, “Be of good cheer I have overcome the world”
The disciples have given us the blue print. So, what do we do if we find ourselves facing any kind of storm of life? Go to the master Jesus Christ, wake Him up and make a desperate request (“we perish”). The master is there waiting, watching to see how you come. So how do you come to the master? Sluggishly, weeping buckets in self pity? Or half doubting, half believing? Listen, the word of God said in Jer.29:13 – “And ye shall seek me and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart”. But if you are the believer which “worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh” (Phil.3:3), then you don’t have to worry for the master is already in that storm with you and there is no way you can sink.
