Some Unique Uses of Colloidal Silver

The term colloid was first used in 1861 by Thomas Graham, 銀離子噴霧 and is Greek for “glue”. A colloid refers to tiny particles suspended in any medium, typically a liquid or gel. Particles are usually sized between 1 – 1000 nanometers in diameter. Colloidal silver technically does not refer to silver ions or complex compounds in ionic form (aqueous solutions, dissolved solids, etc.). However, the term “colloidal silver” has truly lost its scientific meaning, and should be considered a generic term for health products containing silver in a fluid medium.

Silver is a metallic element that is mined as a precious metal. It has various industrial uses–for example, in jewelry, silverware, electronic equipment, dental fillings, photographic processing, and disinfecting water. Silver has had some medicinal uses going back for centuries. However, more modern and less toxic drugs have eliminated most of those uses. A few prescription drugs containing silver are still available. For example, silver nitrate can be used to prevent an eye condition called conjunctivitis in newborn babies and to treat certain skin conditions, such as corns and warts. Another drug, silver sulfadizine, can be used to treat burns. These drugs are applied to the body (i.e., they are not taken internally), and they can have negative side effects.

In the early 1900’s colloidal silver became the choice of medical practitioners. It proved to be enormously effective against infectious organisms and extremely safe to use, without the negative side effects associated with drugs. It was demonstrated that colloidal silver contains anti fungal and anti bacterial properties. It is claimed to be effective on over 650 viruses and bacteria, and resistant strains do not develop. Whereas an antibiotic drug effectively kills only six to eight different micro-organisms and these germs can eventually develop strains that are immune to the drug. The uncontrolled use of antibiotics in some third world countries where they are available as over the counter medication is producing strains of super bugs that are highly resistant to antibiotic drugs. There is a definite danger of future plagues because of this. Colloidal Silver is a powerful wide spectrum antibiotic. Another advantage of using colloidal silver is that it is unlikely to affect friendly intestinal bacteria, which is not the case with traditional antibiotics as it kills all bacteria without differentiating among good and bad one.

Colloidal silver has been successfully used in septic conditions of the mouth such as tonsillitis and pyorrhea, (gum disease). It can quickly relieve swimmer’s ear or the pain caused by an ear infection. It can help conjunctivitis, as well as other forms of infection or inflammation of the eyes, with no irritation or stinging. Applied topically it can relieve athlete’s foot, acne, warts, open sores, insect bites, and cuts and burns. Application is dependent on the problem. It can be taken orally for conditions such as, parasites, candida, chronic fatigue, herpes, shingles, staph and strep infections and over sixty viral and bacterial diseases.

Colloidal silver is also quite effective in AIDS effected people. Since in such case, the suppressed immune system of the body is open to all kinds of disease, colloidal silver may be a beneficial non-toxic supplement because of its ability to fight viruses and bacteria.

As per recent findings, colloidal silver is found to be doing something more than killing disease-causing organisms. It was also causing major growth stimulation of injured tissues. It was concluded that the presence of the silver may help to regenerate tissue, eliminate old or cancerous cells, and any other diseased or abnormal condition.
